KEEP ART ALIVE

During this program students will explore the many ways in which art is alive through an art curriculum that engages students through STEAM. The program explores how we keep art alive through our identities, how we function and participate in our communities, and how we sustain them using the resources within our reach. Throughout the program students will explore color therapy, anatomy, sculpture through community building, and environmental art installations. It can run for 30 weeks, 12 weeks, or 6 weeks.

BON APPETITE

During this program students will become an Arts Visionary and learn about food through cultural exploration, experiments, and healthy cooking. Students will explore the many ways in which science, health/wellness, and urban agriculture impact their lives, family, and the communities around them through STEAM. Grow/contribute to a community garden. Learn about plants, animals, food, and how science is a study of culinary arts. The program can ran for 30, 12, or 6 weeks.

Trash Percussion (Bucket Drumming)

Compose exciting rhythms out of recycled materials, plastic buckets, and trash cans of various sizes. Participants will create a full percussion ensemble using these common household materials.

Residencies

We offer artist residency programs, both in-school, afterschool, and virtually depending on artist availability. Our educational programs and assemblies have been presented in numerous schools, community centers, libraries, and museums, as well as in public areas throughout the NY tri-state area and abroad since 2000. Residencies include: Music (Brazilian Drumming, African Drumming, Trash Percussion), Drama, Visual Arts (Grades 3-12), Dance (Latin, Tap, African, and Brazilian Capoeira), Early Childhood and Technology through the Arts (Modern Videography 101, Music Technology MIDI - Grades served: 5- 12 (Limited Enrollment)).

Early Childhood Workshops

Arts For Kids Early Childhood workshops consist of a series of developmental workshops in Music, Movement, and Drama that require active, hands-on participation from the educator/parent and child. Participants are exposed to phonemic awareness, sequencing, math, colors, shapes and numerous other research-based early childhood educational concepts taught through the use of the arts.

FOR EDUCATORS: Music Composition Through Technology

Momin will offer a professional development course for teaching artists to learn how to effectively use Soundtrap for the Music Composition Through Technology program.
1) TAs will learn the fundamental technical skills required to navigate and control the Soundtrap music software;
2) TAs will gain insight into the basic elements of creating audio and MIDI tracks;
3) TAs will understand the multi-layered process involved in the creation of a song, using loops, recording external instruments, and the basic manipulation of rhythms and melodies, to create song-arrangements.
4) TAs will learn basic production skills such as adding automation, equalization (EQ), compression, reverb and various other sound effects.
5) TAs will learn how to effectively manage the Soundtrap “educators panel’ to manage and organize their students, assign lessons and control privacy/sharing settings.

Music Composition Through Technology

Feel like a professional producer by learning how to use a web-based music production program that allows even non-musicians to create music. This program works on all computer operating systems (pcs/macs) and syncs with mobile devices (android/iphone) as well. Students will learn how to arrange and edit tracks, along with basic production skills such as adding automation, equalization (EQ), compression, and reverb to add a unique identity to their songs. By the end of the residency, each student would have recorded an original music composition in a genre of their choosing. Students will also learn to create their own podcasts. Learn about this exciting computer program and how you can incorporate it into your curriculum to integrate technology and the arts.

Latin Dance

Participants will celebrate the cultures of South America, Central America, and the Caribbean with dance workshops in Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Tango, Cumbia, Cha-Cha, and Mambo among others.

Modern Videography 101

Jump into the directors chair using the tools and resources all around you! Phones, tablets, or any device with a camera can create and film ideas that you can share with your friends, families, and community.

Trash Percussion (Bucket Drumming)

Digital Photography & Digital Movie

A professional visual artist guides participants to create portraiture, still-life, and location photography with their own PDA based digital cameras.

Mask Making

Participants will use a variety of visual art techniques to assemble a unique mask inspired by their studies of various cultures during the program.

Multicultural Drumming

Participants will learn bout various percussion instruments and rhythmic patterns from places such as Africa, South America, the Caribbean and North America.

African Dance

Participants will embark on a cultural journey across various countries in Africa using traditional instruments, songs, and movements taught by a professional dancer.

Adult Glass Making Classes

Our studios are open and ready to create something magical with you! Ignite your artistic side and take a class with friends, collaborate with a group for team building, or heat things up on date night. Check out our free youth and young adult programs for Newark residents or our unique summer camps. We have something for everyone ages 5 - 95+. Our classes range from 1 hour to several weeks or even a semester long! Custom packages can be created per your specific requests or join one of our public programs to explore Newark's only glass art center!

A Case for the Existence of God

Ryan is undereducated, awful with money, and reeling from a painful divorce with the mother of his child, while Keith is polished, financially savvy, and the gay single dad of a foster daughter. When Ryan seeks Keith’s help to secure a loan, the two men forge an unlikely alliance in this powerful play about money, fatherhood, and the dreams we hold for the future.

Playwright Samuel D. Hunter is the recipient of a MacArthur Foundation “genius” grant for “crafting quietly captivating dramas that explore the human capacity for empathy and confront the socially isolating aspects of contemporary life across the American landscape.”

Thomas Fortune, a civil rights advocate and leading African American journalist of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Fortune’s home was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1976 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Instrument Discovery Zone

New Jersey Symphony musicians will showcase an Instrument Discovery Zone in NJPAC’s lobby for patrons to explore making music with brass and percussion instruments. Come try out an instrument for yourself before the performance!

I AM MENTORSHIP PROGRAM

Is a S.T.E.A.M Mentorship program centered around the art of self, self-empowerment, self-identity, self-expression, self-awareness, and self-love. This program can be ran in 6 or 12 weeks.

HANDS-ON S.T.E.A.M WORKSHOPS

We have developed an interactive outdoor or virtual learning experience for Black and Brown students. The program provides four (4) different hands-on S.T.E.A.M activities in a green space (ideally) or virtually allowing students, schools, and community members to enjoy learning in a new way. Virtual programs will be supplied kits ahead of time. Our programs are designed around the national S.T.E.A.M standards, always incorporate the Expressive Arts, and touch on topics like Environmental Justice, Social Justice, and Holistic Health & Wellness. Our goal is to provide thought provoking programming to dismantle the misrepresentations of blacks in S.T.E.A.M fields. We want to educate students on the endless possibilities they have for their futures, give them a voice and platform to be valued and protected, and provide a creative and innovative approach to virtual and in-person learning. These programs are customizable. They can be (1) event or a series of programs.

RADICAL EDUCATOR PD

Taking mentorship, healing, and creativity in education to the next level. Designed with the student in mind, a Radical educator can be a parent, schoolteacher, seasoned / mastered professional, an elder, and/or someone who loves to share real and viable knowledge.

K-12 School Performances

Our assembly programs are designed to provide students with a fun and exciting educational experience through story, song and performance, while implementing the National Core Arts Standards.

In-School & After-School Programs

We offer artist residency programs, both in-school and after-school, performance assemblies, parent and teacher development training workshops that help integrate the arts into standard-based classroom curriculum, while creating alternative approaches to teaching and learning that foster multi-cultural awareness and are inclusive of students with disabilities. Residencies include: Music, Drama, Visual Arts, Dance, and Technology through the Arts.

What's In Your Hand Digital Photography Workshop

The mobile phone has become the new “vox populi,” the voice of the people. It is an indispensable tool that we use to document our daily lives and experiences. The objective of the “What’s In Your Hand” workshop is to use the cell phone to create still-life assemblage art with objects that are important in your personal life and history. Students will create a narrative by placing flat and three-dimensional objects in their hand and photographing the composition with a cell phone.

The workshop will experiment with available light, flash, sunlight, and black and white images. We will also explore editing techniques with the phones editing system.

This remote workshop is offered on the Zoom platform, and it is an excellent arts project for teenagers and adults. All materials are supplied by the participants.

Arts For Kids Coders

By the end of this course, students will be able to develop complex programs with the Block
Canvas and rewrite simple block programs in JavaScript. Students will demonstrate a mastery of
block programming by manipulating sensors, loops, and conditionals. Students oriented toward Artistic expression will follow a different track with a completely different robot that operates the exact same way other robot. Accordingly, all knowledge learned is completely transferable due to the software, and operations covered. The only difference is the robot used: round vs a rover type device. The round robot can be dipped in water paint, programmed, and students will be able to create their Art using code and creativity using the same functions used with the other robots and hardware. iPadology

Participants will design a still-life set up using small objects of art. Manipulating the images using the Photo Booth app on the iPads, participants will learn the process of editing images with at least four photo apps.

Brazilian Capoeira

Capoeira combines elements of martial arts, sports, and music to teach participants about the Brazilian tradition that dates back to sixteenth century Africa.

Contemporary Dance

Participants will learn about contemporary dance such as hip-hop, TikTok routines, and urban dances from around the world.

Tap Dance

A professional dancer will lead participants through the fundamentals and techniques of tap dance. Participants will explore movement on many different levels and engage the use of energy in movement.

Collage

In addition to studying pieces from collage masters, participants will find inspiration in their face, figure, and environment using colored tissue paper, newspaper, fabric and buttons, painted paper and torn paper, and more!

Modern & Jazz Dance

Participants will learn the basic elements of these dance disciplines in order to create a complete routine with the option of showcasing their new knowledge in a culminating performance.

Print Making

More dramatic than painting and drawing, participants explore the process of printmaking by using a variety of textures and patterns to see cause and effect in action.

Photography

Through a series of fun and engaging exercises participants will learn how to utilize their "camera". By removing the automatic setting, they will be taught how to get the most out of their personal electronic devices, while learning the fundamentals of traditional camera techniques. iPad options can be provided.

Glass Art Field Trip

The Glass-Art Field Trip
Centered on the beauty and magic of glass-art, our signature Field Trip offers students the opportunity to create glass beads over a 2000 degree torch in our Flame Shop, individual glass-mosaics in our Flat Shop, and witness an exciting demonstration of glassblowing in our Hot Shop (when available). All projects include an introduction to and practice with glass tools, as well as lessons in basic color and design theory. Unique in the field of visual arts, especially in its use of fire and glass, this multi-dimensional learning experience can activate one or more indicators of engagement in students such as responsiveness, curiosity, investigation, discovery, anticipation, persistence and initiation.

Kids Summer Theatre Camp

Write and perform an original play in a week! Each week is a brand new adventure, as campers explore improvisation, acting, theatre games, collaborative storytelling, and playwriting to create a unique performance!

Join us for a fun-filled theatre camp for incoming Grades 2-5! Sign up for one week or several. Luna Theatre Camp counselors are professional theatre artists who can't wait to support your kids in inspired imaginings. Each section has one lead teacher and one assistant.​

Celebrate the rich and diverse cultures of Latin America with the New Jersey Symphony Chamber Players in a captivating string quartet performance that highlights the works of some of the region's most distinguished composers. This concert honors the legacy of pioneering Latin American musicians who blended Western classical traditions with indigenous folk songs and rhythms, shaping unique national styles of Argentina, Cuba, Mexico, Spain, and Puerto Rico from composers such as Abelardo Valdés, Consuelo Velázquez, Juan Crisóstomo Arriaga, and Carlos Gardel. The concert introduces an array of genres from Classical and Romantic to 20th-century compositions. The program is designed for audiences of all ages from elementary school students to adults and seniors. Join the New Jersey Symphony Chamber Players for an unforgettable journey through the musical heart of Latin America!

New Jersey Symphony Chamber Players at the Passaic County Film Festival

PCCC Public Safety Academy (300 Oldham Road) in Wayne

Hear the New Jersey Symphony Chamber Players perform music from some of your favorite movies like The Wizard of Oz, West Side Story, and Star Wars! The Film Festival presents opportunities for high schoolers, college students and independent filmmakers of Passaic County to showcase their short films as a creative and technical effort. Following the performance, film screenings will begin at 11 am.
